My view of Greenspan was that he thought of himself as watching history unfold -- and of course this is partly true. Did he earn the reputation "easy Al" -- you bet he did. But he did it with some intellectual justification. I would say that so far Bernanke is an unknown - the half point cut shows he can panic, but on the other hand most around this thread know that he is faced with a tough crisis to deal with. Bernanke worries me because he believes so firmly in "pretending" as a way of keeping the system going -- he calls it "maintaining confidence".
