Re the food bill....How many days is the conference? Two? If 300 people go, and NASA/taxpayers pay for the meals....that is $50k divided by 300 people for a total of 6 meals (if it's two days) of average $27.67 per banquet meal. In Seattle and area, any hotel unless it's motel 6, charges at a minimum $24+++++ per banquet meal, even if it's coffee, and a buffet.... That includes meal, beverage, setting up and taking down the room tables/chairs, the staff to serve, the heat lights taxes, and in our case, free parking. WA State over 15 years ago decided to tax the meal AND THE GRATUITY, then add the tax on BOTH, for the final bill....Wasn't good enough to just charge tax on the meal....and the tax on that, THEN add the 18-10% gratuity....no sireee.....in WA only the highest possible tax will do..... I suspect the charges for a dinner banquet are like they are in DC....$75 or better....each. The thing that everyone should know is that ALL levels of Congress, both House and Senate, and ALL levels of State and National Government do this.....How much do we really think we are paying for conference and conference meals.....?????
