It's a tough profession to do well in. I suppose it's an easy one if you don't care and do a crappy job. And yeah, I know most people feel overworked and underpaid, and they are. I don't even want to figure out what my hourly wage is after I factor in all the time I spend at home. I just don't want to know :-)

But respect I have in buckets. So although some twerps on the net, and kooks in the press diss teachers, all the people who count- the kids, their parents, the administration- will respect you if you do a good job, and they will be grateful. And parents really are so wonderful to talk to. And most of them at our school do care. And they do appreciate a teacher who goes out of their way to help.

In many ways you get back what you give- as in most other areas of life.
