They have those meters in some US locations now, including at least one Alaska Native village where people weren't paying their energy bills.

.....she had to insert a debit card into a meter to buy credits in order to have heat in her apartment.

That's amazing. I wonder how long, or what it will take to get over this trendy societal paranoia.
