Carter could have avoided destabilizing the Shah to begin with. his elite were living like kings True enough. and ignboring the real needs of the vast majority of his people. Not true. He was trying to develop the country and it was better off economically when he was in power. He also had a brutal secret police force which cracked down hard. Nowhere near as brutal as what followed him. Liberals always end up attacking America's foreign friends and allies and defending our enemies.
