You answered your question, Ted.

To use solar, there is more than just the solar cells, and they are a big chunk. But each individual cell only produces about 1.5 volts at a few milliamps. DC. Going from that to 110-220 volts AC at several amps is a non-trivial exercise.


I guess I place to much faith in our science. I would think improving the output of solar cells would not be that hard to accomplish.
