Maybe. I think Tench's post is very revealing. Based on polls, this country has moved further to the right than most people are comfortable with. Most of the right's hot button issues are not supported by most of the people. Most of the left's are. So the country, as a whole, wants to move to the left.

The real question is, why shouldn't they be allowed to move as far left as they are willing to go? What would be wrong with it? Aren't we a democracy? Or are we a dictatorship where the minority gets to decide?
