And I the cynical one am having a hard time believing any DATA coming out of either Wall St. or the Govt these days.. as everything is just spin...


The spin has been around for decades, it's just worse now as the involved parties get more frantic. I've noticed a significant increase in the frequency and size of "data adjustments" the last few months.

At least folk like John Williams are around to show the real data, and I even recall a few articles on Bloomberg lately where CPI accuracy was being seriously questioned - not just the moronic core numbers.

In other words, more and more are becoming aware of all the spin... and that will affect the markets more and more as time goes by.

As far as the program trading numbers, I'm not as certain as you about data issues and time will tell there too. I don't use it for trading... but speaking of trading, here's an "interesting" chart with the Baltic Dry Index (a measure of international maritime shipping rates):
