actually funny you mention it. My ex husband was lactose intolerant, and many of his family are. Upon discussing this with them I discovered that many cultures exist where the majority of adults are lactose intolerant (asian cultures primarily) mostly because adults typically don't eat the massive quantities of dairy products that our overweight culture relies on.

Living with my ex-husband I was shocked at the amt of dairy products that are unnecessarily introduced in foods. Salads, seafood dishes you name it. Cheese and dairy sauces in everything.

I don't know what the true sources of the obesity epidemic are. But this mythic status of milk as some kind of wonder food (propogated by the dairy industry) that kids just can't live without- even though the majority of kids over toddler age in the world life just fine without it- seems like part of the problem to me.
