I drink the water out of the tap at my workplace in San Jose. It still tastes good after a weekend of sitting in a Nalgene. It tastes better than the water delivered to my workplace.

I run my water through a Brita at home in Palo Alto. Does that count as from the tap? I serve this water to guests, and no one has said, "Boo."

When my wife lived in SF, I would drink the water from the tap, and it was good.

Call me crazy.

Don't you have an RO filter tap in your kitchen?

Between that and sparkling San Pellegrino, all my water needs are met.

Guests who need bottled still water had best bring their own.

I grew up drinking East Bay Mud (EBMUD) from the tap.

We're in the Bay Area, and use a Brita filter. Works fine, water tastes fine. There is no guarantee that the bottled water you're buying isn't tap water, anyway.

We have always been drinking filtered tap water in Florida. I have a filter in the refrigerator water line. Tastes just like bottled water, and is much more convenient and energy efficient.

FWIW, I tried drinking the tap water when I first arrived in LA for a one year stint. Not very good and it makes HORRIBLE coffee. I quickly converted to bottled water, the first time in my life that I had ever drunk bottled water. If I had not lived there I would probably be thinking you are nuts right now. Ironically I was living one block from the water treatment plant at the end of the massive water transfer system.

The water quality was acceptable when I worked in San Jose, and also when I worked in Dana Point.

The water quality in Michigan is excellent. I have had bottled water once in the decade I have been back. It was not as good as the tap water.

The mountains of Vermont have the best water of anywhere I have ever been. Locals said it's the calcium. It was so good I would drink it just to drink it.

I drink tap water at home in Seattle. And at work (but it's filtered there, due to special circumstances).
