Is there global warming?

I watched this show on 60 Minutes tonight, knowing exactly where they were going:

Losing the American West

The American West is quickly disappearing due to a single degree temperature increase. Further proof that global warming is changing the landscape of the world is the lengthening fire season in the West. Scott Pelley reports about the mega-fires that are now plaguing areas in America. Interviews with Tom Swetnam (University of Arizona) and Tom Boatner.

They had the grace to admit up front that 'maybe some of the fires" were due to buildup caused by the Government putting out all possible fires for the last 100 years. But they spent about 20 seconds on that and then got on their "Global Warming" hobbyhorse. The implication is that it's all due to mankind.

It's still up in air whither it is any warmer in the West the last 10 years. And if it is, whither it's a short variation due to God knows what or a longer trend. And if the trend is towards a warmer time now what the cause of it is.

I have no doubt that the larger and more frequent fires are mainly due to the brush and tree buildup that in the past was taken care of by smaller fires. The kind we haven't allowed to happen. But Nooooooooo!

But you would never know it from this show. They had their agenda and they pushed it.

Manymoose;

Gore has no faith at all in the power of nature to rebound, just like it always has hundreds of times since time began

Not sure about Gore, but anyone who thinks nature can't rebound is hopeless in their understanding of nature. Nature will do just fine.

Gore has entirely too much faith in the power of man to cause or stop whatever global trend is underway

hmmm, my faith in man to do the right things is not great. It is our hubris that will prevent constructive solutions. Nature being agnostic is not punished - only man.

MM, how I wish you'd write your comment as you have here, to any number of places.....Any of the better columnists, and/or to the President, and/or to any of the papers, etc....

The Sierra club called us the other night, asking for donations to 'fight global warming'........Sighhhhhhh.....

So many are jumping on the bandwagon, any ole' bandwagon, and driving off into the sunset....singing kumbaya on the way....and not having very many of the facts with them.

What on earth did Mother Nature do before Al Gore? Does nay suppose we had fires, floods, volcanos, etc like this 10,000 or more years ago before man could be blamed for much of anything?
