"In CT we pay 0.434 cents for state and federal taxes per gallon of gasoline .." That is at the other end of the process. The oil companies are not making their royalty payments to our government who is "supposed" to be maintaining our national resources. If any royalties are being paid, they are abysmally low. "I'd rather get the gas @ retail with no tax and pay the Feds based on mileage driven each year .." Maybe a good idea Triffin. How would your mileage be monitored to avoid cheating? Seems to me, your driving and amount of taxes paid are correlated as is. Or..you can get rid of your car and bike as I do. len
