The day of reckoning for the US economy is getting closer, and it won't be pleasant. On this forum, we have discussed the inevitability of what is in store for the average American many times, and this piece gives a glimpse of that. A lower standard of living to pay for the profligate spending spree and mounting debt. In addition, the US dollar is now in real decline, and who knows how low it will go.

Off loading of long standing government promises to the people, such as medicare, old age pensions, etc. is on going, but not enough. The Democrats have now proposed a tax increase, and that is getting some attention.

No doubt, America has the ability to drag the rest of the world under with it.
