One of the dumbest questions I have heard asked repeatedly almost cliche now is, "with all that oil why does Iran need nuclear power?"

The rhetorical conclusion, I suppose, is because they aren't creating nuclear power, they are building nuclear bombs.

Why is that a dumb question followed by a silly conclusion, ... because it fails the test of the obvious.

What is obvious in 2007 is that energy producers are acquiring the wealth of the world and controling geopolitics in the process. They don't need to nuke anybody to accomplish their objectives.

Russia has built a natural gas pipeline across western Europe and is able to get political cooperation from regions they were unable to manage militarily under the USSR.

Iran has oil wealth and is building nuclear power wealth none of which will go unmarketed to Asia or where ever they choose to wield influence. They don't need to launch nuclear bombs, they can grow enriched uranium and sell it to entities who build nuclear bombs or use their wealth to encourage others to have nuke fights and sit quitely buy growing their economic power and influence over satelite armies like Hesbollah, the badr brigade, and the Mahdi Army.

Ever heard of a quarter back using a head fake or a pump fake. Think of Iran as a quarter back and us all looking at the short pass fake while the end around split end is taking off toward the end zone.

I agree with that assessment 100%. I have said it often myself. One caveat though, what if peace does not break out and iran continues its drive for nukes? Thats a more likely scenario, so iranian aspirations need to be at least slowed and the best way is interim deals that give them access to the world economy in trade for decreasing rejectionism and nuke development.

I think we and the Russians should cut WAY down from our current 10k warheads each. As we do that, publicize the hell out of it and start pressuring other countries to follow our EXAMPLE.
