1) I can see how it would effect our strategy but it would in no way make them safe from the US and it would likely make them more of a target on various fronts. The US has never attacked a nuclear-armed country. You think Bush would attack Iran knowing the response might come in a mushroon cloud? The Iranians doen't think so. it would likely make them more of a target on various fronts. as opposed to their open support of terrorists all over the place now, including Al Qaeda. They have not been worrying about being a target so far, you really think having a nuke would make them more worried? 2) Developing a nuke and having the facility to wield it are two different things. The Iranians recently deployed long-range ballistic missiles that can target all of Europe. Problem solved. You could wake up in a year or two to a superpower Iran that is happy to concede nukes because it doesn't care about or need nukes to get its way. If that's satisfactory, then you have no reason to worry about anything but whether or not they are making a nuke. If I could wake up to a democratic Iran no longer in the grip of crazy mullahs I would worry much less. Instead we have got an entrenched regime that has a long track record of putting zero value on the human life of Iranians, let alone anybody else. But they're big on Iran resuming its 'rightful' place ruliing the gulf. This is not the kind of regime that you want to give nukes too. If they use nukes to make all their neighbors kowtow, it will be entirely in character.
