But don't you think the bartender has some ulterior motive? Like acquiring the drunk's house on the cheap?

The drunk doesn't have to sell his house because as you pointed out he make the money to pay his tab. (To some degree...)

As for central banks buying the house on the cheap... I'd say that certainly doesn't apply to the Japan... and largely doesn't apply to the oil states... China... some people are making that claim but I don't really buy it... the US has already handed over to the Chinese something more important.. the ability to make the house...
