Apple should buy Sony

macdailynews.com

The debate seems to have shifted considerably these days. Gone are the days of XYZ should buy Apple. Now it's time for Apple to swallow someone. Not too likely for a large one, since the last aquisition I recall was a tiny operation doing Coverflow. There were some other software acquistions for file conversion, color management and database that sort of ring a bell, but for the most part, they were done with pocket change. The only real acquision I recall was NeXT (a 5-10% deal). What have been the 3 largest dollar or % of Apple value acquistions? Anything less than $100M today or 1-2% wouldn't count in my view.

With Apple's cash pile, medium sized and large aquisitions are very possible, but most are simply not desirable. Still, it's fun to speculate, expecially the other way around.

BTW, Jobs is not Bernard Ebbers, though some would like them to share a cell.
