OK, I got a new gripe. Yesterday I was involved in a minor fender bender. My vehicle suffered NO DAMAGE the other fellow had the skin of his front bumper torn. I entered the wrong lane on an entrance ramp to the Turnpike and was backing up to get in the right lane. When I began to back up there was ABSOLUTELY NO ONE behind me or anywhere around. Apparently someone then came around the bend and we collided. He claimed he couldnt stop cause someone was behind him. I never saw him, my proximity alarm never went off etc etc. Now, here is my gripe, I ACCEPT that I am responsible for the accident as it wouldht have happened if I hadnt been backing up BUT the police officer CHARGED ME WITH A CRIME. Said I was IMPROPERLY BACKING UP and I get a ticket for $123.50 plus 4 points. this is the first ticket I have had IN MY LIFE. Seems to me it was simply an accident, accidents happen, I dont see why every accident has to mean someone broke the law. I never even HEARD of a law against backing up. Well, thats my gripe. jdn
