Not sure I follow your reasoning, (which is good 'cause therefore I can't disagree with it )

However, whatever your purpose, wouldn't it serve just as well to tell your broker to put the stock in your US account ? Seems to me there's nothing to be gained by selling and rebuying what is an identical share. A stock bought in the Canadian account under the Canadian symbol, MR, can be sold in US under the US ticker symbol, or can serve as margin to support a US$ debit balance or a US stock purchase.

I believe that any margiinable stock, even in your Canadian account, will provide margin for a US stock purchase or even a US dollar debit. Gonna check it ..... Have checked
