Over the years I have owned 20-30 drives from most of the main stream HD makers and only one has ever failed. Ironically it was the most expensive drive I ever bought. It was a Fujitsu 250 mb drive, est cost $900 I bought in the late 80's or early 90's and failed after 18 months.

Now I have an 8 gig flash drive which cost $40.

I think most drives are about equal these days. A while back there were big differences but not many anymore. I bought a 10K drive and was disappointed at the results. It showed very limited improvement over standard 7200 drives
