JF, thanks. I've been aware of this issue for years now. It's very prevalent in SoCal, as you can imagine.

The thing about the modern-day South Korean "comfort women" is this. Young Korean women these days run up huge credit card bills for various reasons, especially as they get caught up in the materialism. Then when the creditors start calling and threatening to go after their families, they get desperate. Some come to America to work off their debts, and they either choose prostitution or get swindled into it. Once they're in, it's extremely hard for them to get out, especially since they are taken advantage of every step of the way.

You can only expect this sex trade to grow, especially with women from China and SE Asia. The article is right. Almost all of the women are just in it for the money and would love to get out ASAP. They've all made their choices, but of course, choices can often be made without thinking about it or under the worst possible circumstances.
