re: Does car insurance work the same way?

No, for good reasons. There is a big difference between someone's car health and someone physical health. The European societies recognize the difference and implement sympathetic health plans.

I know you think that's terrible but it's actually quite humane.

I give up. GET it THRU your FAT head that auto insurance and health insurance are NOT comparable. I think all in the US should have the opportunity, perhaps government subsidized, to buy decent health insurance at a decent cost. If the better off have to bear some of that cost, that's an acceptable tradeoff in my view. Cut the crap with the auto/fire comparisions, it's not the same... Wrecking your stupid car very likely won't bankrupt you, but getting cancer could.... How many times do I have to say that???

John

PS - And PLEASE, spare me the agony of a lengthy reply with endless 'statistics' as to why health insurance for all won't work.
