The government has a role, in combating crime and criminal behavior, which what you are showing is clearly an example of. However there is no question that "free market capitalism" is a much better system at growing an economic pie than socialism. Socialism is very inefficient, it is basically equalization of poverty. Of course some people will take socialism over corrupt, phony, criminal version of capitalism that crushes workers, savers and retirees and destroys the savings and living standards of most of population for the benefit of the top 5% of population.
