It does bring an interesting question, which is what's to stop people from using laptops on these "free" data airwaves? Surely airwave access will be tied to specific devices, I'd think. Yeah, carriers will try to do that like they lock down phones, but one of the first killer 3rd party apps on the iPhone will be tethering a laptop via bluetooth to the iPhone data line. Basically use the iPhone as a modem. This is already done with a number of smart phones (and even not so smart phones).
