I'm far from 'financially challenged' and had a hard time finding coverage.

Thats because of government interference in the health insurance market.

" An issue sure, but not one deserving a federal response. I put in a very wealthy zip code in an even larger state (CA, zip code for Beverly Hills) and it was lower. My county is one of the wealthiest in the country and it had a much lower cost then New York. Just now I checked Chicago, it also had much lower rates.
Same for Dallas, Atlanta, Newark, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Portland, New Haven, Miami, Fargo, etc.

From middling small to very large cities, rich, or not so rich, in different states all over the US, the costs are much lower than in New York. I deliberately included cities in the surrounding states and they where also much lower. I also just checked Albany and Buffalo to get away from my old zip and the New York City area, they also had much higher cost than other states including the near by states like CT, NJ, and PA, and more distant large states like CA, and IL.

Makes its seem like a NY specific problem"

"Out of the goodness of their hearts, New York State politicians banned a practice where insurance company would charge you based on your risk analysis. For example, young adults are the lowest rist, since their medical expenses are the smallest. Old people nearing retirement are the most expensive for insurance companies.

So New York State banned companies from giving inexpensive rates to healthy young. So the companies started charging young adults much higher rates, something like the average. Then, of course, the healhy young people dropped their insurance (since most people pay at least portion of the insurance), and the insurance companies ended up with much older and sicker pool of people.

Also, I don't know all the details, but there was some talk about forcing insurance companies to pay for very expensive procedures, making the only option for a person to buy the Cadillac version of health insurance while Chevy level products is what people like to buy the most (since that's all most people can afford).

Add super ambulance chaser friendly and union friendly environment, and that's what you get..."

As I said with Tim, get it thru YOUR thick head that we would like COVERAGE, not charity...

"Coverage" for those with severe previously existing conditions is charity if the insurance company knows about it but voluntarily gives you coverage at a reasonable rate anyway. Its insurance fraud if they don't know about it, and its theft or extortion if their forced to give it to you at a rate that means they lose money.

While people who are not used to having to justify their OPINIONS may perceive me to be thick headed, it does not make their opinion of that any more right than any other opinion.

I am not familiar with the details of your case. Just because you say you don't have insurance it does not explain why I should pay for it.

Would you refresh my memory, please. I recall your posting about difficulties in obtaining coverage but I can't recall the details. Are you saying that for some people, no coverage is available at any price?
