I've highlighted the key phrase in that sentence. That, in a nutshell, is why Microsoft continues to lose marketshare in everything from mobile device OS's to their gaming platform.

They have no imagination.

The Google phone will probably be a big hit, because Microsoft doubts its power.


Actually, it's not imagination that's missing in my view. I think they've got plenty of imagination that they can copy whatever anyone else has come up with. They lack creativity to come up with that themselves. They also lack ability to quickly and efficiently bring it to market. What they do have is a lot of cash and perseverance, sticking with things until they finally get it right years later, and even then it's not perfect, but just good enough. They're also good at figuring out how to sell them in ways that make it look cheaper than it really is, kind of like extended warranties.
