Any suggestions? I've never bought a new one from anyone but Apple.

You can buy from B&H Photo or J&R World in New York. You'll have to pay shipping but that shouldn't be as much as CA Tax.

I've purchased lots of things from Both Venders and have no complaints about either. There are others but these are the 2 I've had personal experience with. Best of luck with your purchase.

If you don't care for a custom configuration, you can buy from Amazon tax-free and free shipping.

>>I live in California so if I buy a MacPro and the logic suite from Apple they are going to nail me for another $240 in California sales taxes. This is enough to consider looking elsewhere.

Doren -

I've gotten good service from PowerMax. Talk to them on the phone and they'll try to accommodate any request. They're located in Oregon, so ground shipping is pretty quick.

They also have an excellent selection of used Macs.
