Peter,

In regard to California energy markets, are you talking about the spike in electricity prices they had some years ago? From what I read, a significant part of that was engineered by our friendly traders at Enron, which leads me back to the issue of can the private insurance sector really give us what I would like to see. If insurance companies on their own would be willing to provide reasonably priced policies to all, no cherry picking, and guaranteed acceptance I would certainly have no problem with the private sector providing health care. I suspect however, that without some kind of government 'push' that it just won't happen, so my best guess is that we either have a system that remains somewhat private with govenment help to insure that everyone is covered, or if that isn't feasible a government run system. I know many here see that as anathema, but the fact remains that (IMO) the current system just doesn't cut it. Even at the 'gold plated' corporate level lots of my friends are complaining about the steady erosion in benefits and rapidly rising copays. The conversation becomes a bit more 'spirited' among those I know like myself that are self-employed... <ggg>

Regards,
John
