re: You would think they had a better handle on their customers' and the channel's inventory.

Gross simplification. With 85% MSS you have no idea of the magnitude of Intel's knowledge of the market and the closeness of the customer relationship. They do quite a good job with allocation. Maybe they will get to that program if supply becomes a problem... For now, it's just a little behind a common cycle...

I would be troubled if Intel was not selling at record revenues, near record profits, and 50% stock price rise. While also widening their lead to the point that no one can catch up, regardless of who or what combination. Intel is a one-of-a-kind company in its field. I have no complaints, and I know there is no way I would know how to run it better than the way it is run. I also don't know of a better investment, long or short term.

Anyway, it is not an issue of inventory. It is of end user demand. Apparently the market is shifting to notebooks faster than Intel planned for. Seems like a great opp for AMD. Except I think AMD will be similarly constrained, and more so.

of course the folks here who rode AMD down to a 70% loss think they are smarter. So have at it everyone. Enjoy the fruit of your brilliance.
