"Strangely enough, its capitalist greed that is undermining their way of life and not that they don't work."

You shouldn't consider it strange, Ted. It's human nature (for most ambitious humans) to want to get ahead and be rewarded for their efforts. That's why capitalism works better than any other system.

You know, TC, you have about as much imagination as an turtle. Capitalism comes in a number of forms in this world. The US is considered one of the more capitalistic nations. And while it has a great deal of wealth, it has a number of problems that other capitalistic nations do not have. Hence,I would say our form of capitalism is not the best and that there are better forms of capitalism.....maybe a hybrid. The purer capitalism gets the less it works very well.

Now, do you want to try again to point out a better system and why it is better?

No, I don't. I think a society where talent and ability and concern for the common good win out over accumulating wealth simply for the sake of doing it is a much better economic system. In the end, accumulating money loses its appeal to all but the few who are truly debased. The US is becoming increasingly decadent and corrupted and unpleasant in which to live, running its capitalism the way it does. I think we need to go for a hybrid of capitalism and something else......less capitalism and more something else.......maybe the dreaded S word. ;-)
