But I still wonder why the people of Gaza don't make their own effort at national self-determination in the new nation of Gaza, abandoning the non-Gaza Pal refugees to their own devices, and demanding massive UN/USA/Israeli aid in exchange?...But, since they don't do that, and don't even seem to bring it up, it shows how out of touch I am with these clowns.

Just for the sake of getting in more touch with the facts, let's see what 'these clowns' actually did in the last week. The following news stories date from the last couple of days.

They shelled some Israeli towns:

Gazans fire nine Kassams at Sderot, western Negev
...Forty Kassams have been fired at Israel since the beginning of the week.

Hamas held a press conference in Gaza where they displayed some body parts which they said belonged to IDF solders:

(IsraelNN.com) According to the Bethlehem-based Maan news agency, Hamas terrorists held a press conference on Monday night claiming a victory over IDF soldiers in gunfights earlier in the day. Hamas leaders said terrorists had taught the soldiers “an unforgettable lesson.”

The terrorists displayed body parts during the press conference, claiming that the body parts belonged to Israeli soldiers who were wounded during the day. No IDF soldiers lost body parts in Gaza on Monday, and it is not clear who the body parts actually belonged to.

The press conference was held next to the Gaza home of Ahmed Abu Tahoun, one of the Hamas terrorists who was killed in Monday’s fighting. At least one other terrorist was killed, as was one IDF reservist.

Hamas declared Abu Mazen a traitor on its official website:

The official website of Izz A-Din Al-Kassam Brigades of Hamas quotes its official spokesman Abu Obieda as saying, "Abbas is an enemy of the Palestinian nation."

Abu Obieda, representing the official position of Izz A-Din Al-Kassam, says the ongoing meetings between Abu Mazen and his men, on the one hand, and "those who carried out the Zionist entity's acts of slaughter", even as the "Zionist attacks continue against the Palestinian people continue," are proof that "Abbas and the people around him are not concerned with the suffering of the Palestinian people. These meetings are a waste of time, and will not obligate the Palestinian people."

Abu Obieda further states that Abu Mazen's talks with Israel are designed to "stick a knife in the back of the Palestinian people and harm their resistance... They are therefore considered acts of treachery and treason against the Palestinian people."

The statement represents a frontal attack against Mahmoud Abbas and the Fatah-led Palestinian Authority he runs - and a warning to those counting on the upcoming U.S.-sponsored Annapolis Mideast summit. The Hamas terror organization, which currently governs the Gaza Strip that was evacuated two years ago by Israel, claims that Abbas (Abu Mazen) has the status of "traitor to his people" for his continued contacts with Israel.

Abbas announced that Hamas intends to take over the West Bank, with external help:

Hamas is planning to overthrow the Palestinian Authority government in the West Bank with the help of external forces, PA President Mahmoud Abbas said Sunday.

Meanwhile, Fatah officials in Ramallah revealed that some Hamas leaders had received financial aid from former PA chairman Yasser Arafat. Documents released by the officials showed that the Hamas leaders had received thousands of dollars from Arafat in the 1990s.

"We have information that Hamas is planning to copy the Gaza coup in the West Bank," Abbas said. "It's no secret that international parties are supporting Hamas in its efforts."

Although Abbas did not name the international parties, his aides told The Jerusalem Post he was referring to Iran, Syria and Qatar.

Might I suggest that Barry Rubin has a better handle on the Palestinians than you do? Go back and check your sensible ideas against the Rules. They break most of them, so obviously are a non-starter.

Palestinians Demand Deadline for State

30/10/2007
aawsat.com

RAMALLAH, West Bank, (AP) - The chief Palestinian peace negotiator said Tuesday there would be no talks with Israel without a deadline for establishing a Palestinian state — the first indication the Palestinians could scuttle a U.S.-sponsored Mideast conference over the issue.

Palestinian officials have repeatedly said they want a detailed timeline for talks that are expected to begin in earnest after the upcoming conference in November or December.

"The Israeli prime minister (Ehud Olmert) has stated that he will not accept a timetable, and we say we will not accept negotiations without a timetable," Ahmed Quriea said at a news conference with the EU's external affairs commissioner, Benita Ferrero-Waldner. It was the first indication that Palestinians could scuttle negotiations altogether if that demand is not met.
