That is probably the perception of someone from the UK when they visit the US these days.

One great point on the flip side of all this I heard mentioned on a talk show the other day is many Europeans have been burned bigtime by the combination of the collapse in the dollar and housing prices in some of their favorite destinations especially in Florida and Vegas the past couple of years. If they bought at the peak in 2005 and prices are down 30-50% combined with another 20% hit in currency that is some hit of 45-70%.. Of course others till take this as a buying opportunity and I'm sure they'll be here in droves this winter buying up stuff dirt cheap..
