Yep... the two dominant Parties have manipulated ballot access regulations, state-by-state, and through that and gerrymandering and a number of other tricks (passing laws to make the formerly widespread practice of 'fusion voting' illegal, etc.), and through these self-same financial reporting rules --- acted to prevent the emergence of any viable competition for nigh-on to a century now. (Previously, we had new Parties springing up, and old ones dying off, regularly.)
