We do. Nuclear and solar. Nuclear has been restarted, solar is gradually getting cost efficient. But both will take years to implement. There is no quick fix. They would take less time to implement if they were heavily subsidized. More important you are overlooking 50% of oil usage for transportation. We need an energy policy that significantly penalizes inefficient energy clients (like mega SUVs) and rewards efficient energy clients (hybrids and even plain old efficient internal combustion vehicles). We can start making incremental progress as soon as that law is passed. "There is no quick fix" but we can't wait around for solar and nuke plants. With 5% of the worlds population and ~25% of the worlds oil consumption, we are in a uniquely dangerous situation. Our way of life is at stake.
