Not at all so easy, after a hundred years or so....

The Supreme Court ruling (not any law that might have made it's way through the legislative process and then become law) is what ushered in the legal presumption that 'corporations are people with infinite life' --- the very definition of 'judicial activism', as we say now-a-days.

And, every ruling since that has built upon that initial precedent has further codified this granting of previously unavailable legal rights.
