1 had an interesting discussion with a broker I use at one of the major houses. He listened in on one of the calls by one of his analysts, who said that, historically, the best time to buy a lot of the closed ends was the week after Thanksgiving. As I understand it, this could be attributed a lot to tax loss selling.

I've looked for bargains on the last trading day of the year. It doesn't always work out, but some beaten down stocks get mostly retail trade on that day and the selling is primarily tax-related.

JRT cuts dividend:

Normally, I'd would be considering selling on the news. However, stock is already beat down and forward yield is still high (unless they cut more next quarter).

I've added a little to my losing position now. On the assumption that 'safe and cheap' Third Avenue is still in the stock.
