I've got cataract surgery in my future. $3000 dollars an eye here, $850 an eye in India. My GP here is an Indian, and practiced at the hospital in question. He says it's excellent.

There will always be the folks with tons of money that go to the best in the world... if it's cancer and the Cleveland Clinic or Switzerland and whatever. They think that the very high end, like Tiffany's for jewelry, define our pedestrian, everyday health care. It doesn't.

Our system prices routine stuff double the European countries and 10X the developing world. The AMA is in large part of the problem.
