Our house is on the way down now [in price] but since we bought it 7 years ago and treat it as a place to live rather than an investment, if we ignore the current price people wandering up and down the street say it's worth, I don't care. We think we won't be selling for years so current prices are irrelevant.

Judging by the acceleration in bankruptcies and mortgage defaults, there is still quite a long time to go [a year or three] before things smooth out.

At the right price, a house in Hawaii or near San Diego would be good to own. Being migratory, like birds fleeing winter, it would be nice to have roosting places like that.
