The elections were essentially meaningless. If you look at what parliament did, it was a rubber stamp. No one that I have ever read has ever suggested the Iraqis had a good shot at democracy. The country was too unstable, and everyone knew it. Saddam had "elections" too- and they meant about as much.

Iraq was poorly cobbled together. Iran had a real shot at democracy- too bad we destroyed it, eh? What do you think of that?
