I've never been even mildly rich in money terms, except when I compare myself to 98% of the people in the world who are poorer than I am.

That is something to keep reminding ourselves of. Even the American poor are relatively rich to the rest of the world and even more so compared to the lives of all the people that have ever lived.

There have been about 100 billion humans that ever lived. Most never lived long enough to reproduce. Most spent some of their lives starving.

You should consider yourself rich if you have three meals a day, have a heated home or with A/C, and expect to see your children live to adulthood.

It is only in the last 50 to 80 years has that been met and then only by about 10 to 20% of the humans on our planet.

Most anyone that can read this is very lucky and very rich.

I'm often happiest when I'm alone with my thoughts, too.

Sounds like my 'Mantra'...

"When I'm alone, I'm in good company."

Envy is what gets you, I think.

If I believed in original sin, that would be the one. I would bet that a study would show more envious people on the left than on the right.
