People like highly paid pilots can get hits, but the pension coverage is still substantial for most. If memory serves me correctly it can range up to just under 50k. That would cover the vast majority of auto workers if needed, at significant cost to the taxpayers. It's why many airlines were chomping at the bit to go bust. By the way, at outfits like United the 'top managers' put their pension money in guaranteed trusts before the filing, so it would be safe. Capitalism at it's finest!
