Sure. The Iraq War is EXTREMELY unpopular. About 70% of the voters can imagine that the USA would be better off now if Gore had been elected in 2000, because he would not have invaded Iraq. This "invader's remorse" does not necessarily translate into a Democratic victory in 2008. You can't turn back the clock and replay 9-11 and its aftermath. The election will be about how to handle the future.

BTW, I'm worried about another 9-11 in 2009. They hit the WTC in 1993 and 2001 (both the first year of new presidential terms). Symmetry calls for a major hit in 2009. We'll see.
