Paul Breaks One-Day GOP Fundraising Record
18 minutes ago

(RTTNews) - Long shot Republican presidential contender Rep. Ron Paul raked in more than $3 million on Monday from 37,000 donors, with the commemoration of Guy Fawkes Day.

The fund-raising effort was led by the Texas congressman's supporters outside of the campaign through a Web called ThisNovember5th.com, a reference to the failed attempt in 1605 to assassinate King James I by blowing up the Parliament.

Among the 2008 presidential hopefuls, Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York holds the record for single-day fund-raising: $6.2 million on June 30. However, Paul's impressive showing on Monday surpassed the Republican one-day record of $3.14 million on Jan. 8 by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

As of Monday, Paul's campaign has raised more than $7 million, or more than half its stated goal of $12 million by year's end.

Paul, who stands alone among the GOP presidential candidates by opposing the Iraq war, was the 1988 Libertarian presidential nominee. He currently trails in the polls, with just single-digit support.
