I think the 3500 has the same Cummins engine that my 2500 does, but it's better able to haul heavy loads like the big trailer.

If I'm in a big parking lot, like say Walmart, I can always tell when somebody fires up a Cummins.

The newer ones are quieter, but that comes at a cost. I think they are less robust that the older models. My son says the older engines never wear out.
