You are probably right on that. There are always underlying reasons and issues of ideology are often used to support a war. I do think there was a heck of a lot of idealism from the dems that got us into vietnam in the first place. No oil there but your point is taken there as well because if SVN enemy wasnt communists, we would probably not have intervened.
