I agree, Ted had the timeline off. But, Shah or no, Reagan did have a funny relationship with the Iranians. Remember the agreement of the "October Surprise" where the representatives of the Reagan campaign met with the Iranians and worked out a deal to delay the release of the hostages? Or the fact that the Iranians kept their F-14s flying despite not having official access to spare parts or technicians trained to maintain them? And then, of course, it came out that we were actually selling them weapon systems in Iran-Contra...
