>>Can a new mine make it through the green gauntlet up there?<<

In a nutshell: some are making it thru, but not all. We have a cosmic battle shaping up over the proposed Pebble Mine near Bristol Bay. The value of this copper/moly/gold deposit is now estimated at around $500 billion, and they are still delineating the edges of the deposit. It's expected to be the world's largest, and could be worth $ trillions.

But it's located right in the headwaters of the world's richest salmon fishery. So I'm against it, but I think the staggering potential wealth will overcome all obstacles in the end.
