Hello ladydaisy - If you are new to investing then your best bet might be to invest in a fund. Given the risks that come along with mining, I would not advise buying individual companies unless you can buy at least five of them. Buying a fund will allow you to spread your risk but still only buy one stock. We discussed this recently on the Gold & Gold Stock Analysis thread, but don't remember when. Within the last week anyway. A couple of suggestions that came out of that discussion included:

BGEIX
TGLDX

If you are determined to buy junior mining stocks, then I would highly recommend that you invest in a subscription to the Ormetal newsletter (http://www.ormetal.com). The subscription will pay for itself many times over as several people here on SI will attest.

Hope this helps!

tsl
