Central Asia is quite a wild card - huge expanse of land huge reserves of raw materials very sparse population - there are few people smarting from their doldrums - they fear China as much they fear Russia - a high mountain range separates them form India.

200 years ago China tried to control what is now Kazakhstan, Mongolia and other stans - Russia came to the "so called rescue" only to later decimate half or more of their population and tried unsuccessful to Sovietize the region.

The vast expanse of Siberia very sparsely populated by scores of small, mostly nomad, nations do not even know of the riches under the surface - they relate to methane gas as poison as their reindeer is dying in the areas where NG bubbles to the surface in summer.

How Russia with historic borders along the Urals, got an hold on those expanses of land is still a mystery to me and one of the biggest failure of what we call now the Western World.

This immense land grab we could only compare it, to the conquest of N. America by European and Asian immigrants.

There are still little hamlets in middle of the woods in Siberia were they are unaware that USSR does not exist and many still believe the Tzar family is still in power – but no one drilled to find what is several thousand yards beneath the surface
