Yeah, take a messed up veteran-- then multiply the misery among his family members. 'Misery' is a term you don't hear from politicians often. I've seen plenty of it, and can swing by a homeless shelter in downtown Raleigh today and find plenty more.
Wives, kids, parents, siblings, it ripples through society, schools, hospitals and more.
War... what is it good for....?

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

There, I feel better.

Several of my interns in Counseling.... were former Nam
vets. They shared a lot of their experiences with me..

They all were or had been on drugs... which is inconsequential to me as they kids...at the time ...loved that the young interns... had smoked weed.. I learned a lot. But what I learned so intensively was that war leaves wounds that no one can see. That the deprivaty and killing is nor normal for the human race... (excepting socio paths like Simpson )and it takes forever if ever to get over the intrinsic damage.

Thank God I was not a man who had to kill. I cannot even go fishing anymore one sport I loved... because I cannot kill the fish... I once excused it that if I ate the fish it was fine.

Thank you for your most empathetic post. By the way... I would love to know how many of the posters on S.I ever even experienced war. The bigget blow hards I suspect never have been in one. Cyndwllr is one whose posts I respect. He is a Viet Vet.

My ex husband was a Vietnam vet. Several times I woke up with his hands on my throat................sometimes if I touched him during sleep he would instinctively try to strangle me.

That wasn't good for the honeymoon!!

HE was an emotional basket case. I didn't see it back then as I was a young thing with a innocent mind! Those days are gone forever.
